Casitor Arts & Heritage Centre

Opened in April 2011, Caistor Arts & Heritage is the vibrant result of a community-driven vision to celebrate the town’s culture and history. Originally a Methodist Chapel, the building was transformed by JHA following their success in an invited competition in June 2010. The project was one of six to receive Lottery funding through the inaugural round of Village SOS initiatives.

The Project

Located on the edge of the picturesque Lincolnshire Wolds, with views oriented toward Lincoln Cathedral, Caistor Arts & Heritage provides a welcoming hub for locals and visitors alike. The project was born from a local initiative to create a home for the town’s collection of artefacts, while also serving as a centre for learning, creativity, and community engagement.

At the heart of the centre is the relocated central library, providing a dynamic focal point. Visitors are greeted by a café at the front, while the rear houses a gallery and an IT bench, all seamlessly connected by a versatile wall lining that transitions from display shelving to storage, adapting to each space’s function and atmosphere.

Every detail reflects a commitment to local craftsmanship: materials were sourced nearby wherever possible, with furniture and pendant lighting designed by JHA, creating a space that is both functional and unique.
